Peggy Seeger and Jez Lowe In Concert
At this concert, Peggy Seeger, long a renowned singer-songwriter in her own right, was joined by Jez Lowe, one of the best singer-songwriters of this generation, and a principal contributor to the modern Radio Ballads
From 1957-64, the young Peggy Seeger joined Ewan MacColl and Charles Parker, a BBC radio producer from Birmingham, to create the legendary Radio Ballad series, the first to describe people’s working lives in their own words. Since 2006 more than a dozen similar programmes have been made.
At this concert, Peggy Seeger, long a renowned singer-songwriter in her own right, was joined by Jez Lowe, one of the best singer-songwriters of this generation, and a principal contributor to the modern Radio Ballads. For her first number she was also joined by young fiddle player Charlotte Andrews, who is Charles Parker’s granddaughter.
April 2014 is the 50th anniversary of The Travelling People, the final original programme. Earlier, during the Charles Parker Day 2014 at the Library of Birmingham, Peggy reflected on the making of the Radio Ballads and in particular The Travelling People.
